Welcome to Armadale Matters – A Story of Community and Change
In the heart of Western Australia lies the City of Armadale, a place of diverse stories, strong community spirit, and an undeniable potential for transformation. Among the hustle of daily life in the Minnawarra Ward, a quiet movement has been growing—Armadale Matters.
Armadale Matters began with a simple idea: that local people, with a shared vision, could come together to improve the place they call home. It wasn’t born in the chambers of power or the boardrooms of business—it started in conversations between neighbours, over coffee, at the local oval, and in online chats where people expressed hopes, frustrations, and ideas for a better Armadale.
From the outset, Armadale Matters acknowledged the traditional custodians of this land, the Noongar People. Their stories, wisdom, and connection to the land form the roots from which our community grows. We honour their Elders—past, present, and emerging.
Our story is anchored in Minnawarra Ward—the heart of the City of Armadale—home to the vibrant suburbs of Armadale, Brookdale, Wungong, and Hilbert. Though it sits at the centre, too often it feels like the forgotten front. When people speak poorly of Armadale, it's often this city centre they refer to, not the beautiful fringes of Roleystone, Bedfordale, or Mt Nasura.
So, we asked: what if we shifted the narrative?
Armadale Matters became a place for change—a digital gathering ground for ratepayers, residents, and passionate locals. We are non-political, fiercely independent, and grassroots in every way. Our mission is to bring light to what works, speak up for what doesn’t, and offer clear pathways for improvement.
We built our presence online, through social media and our website. We connected people across streets and suburbs, building networks of mutual support and understanding. We reached out to local clubs, community groups, and business owners to hear their stories and offer them a voice.
Our vision is simple but ambitious: a clean, healthy, well-maintained, and respected Armadale. To get there, we:
-
Advocate for transparency and better decision-making from Council.
-
Call for improved facilities and upkeep of public spaces.
-
Support training programs so more everyday citizens can become tomorrow’s councillors.
-
Promote local events, services, and grassroots ideas that build pride and identity.
In our first year, we’ve set out to become a trusted hub for community information. We want every club and community group in Armadale to be visible, accessible, and supported. Through our online message boards and community directories, we aim to shine a light on every corner of our city.
But we don’t stop at information. We take action:
-
We work with sporting clubs to build governance and welfare skills.
-
We support First Nations recognition through digital storytelling.
-
We help volunteers find their place and celebrate their efforts.
-
We encourage newcomers, especially from multicultural communities, to get involved and understand how local government works.
And we’re not alone. Our friends in the Perth Hills—across Kalamunda, Mundaring, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, and Swan—face similar challenges. We are part of a wider push to protect our environment, strengthen infrastructure, and build resilient communities.
This story is just beginning. If you believe in a better Armadale, join us. Register your interest, follow us on Facebook, add your voice to the conversation, or help fund our work. We are a community writing its own future—together.
Armadale Matters. Because we do.

Who we are:
We are a non-party political, independent, grassroots community-based group of ratepayers, residents and interested parties working to promote the unique character and attractiveness of the area within the City of Armadale.
Our Vision
To promote the development of an environmentally healthy, attractive, well-maintained local area and community.
The Minnawarra Ward
The Minnawarra Ward is the visual heart and the physical centre of the local government area known as the City of Armadale.
Council boundaries and Councillors
From the outside look, everything about our City is seen through a lens that focuses primarily on the visual appearance of our city centre and nearby localities.
When people negatively refer to Armadale, they most likely mean what they see in Armadale, not the outer suburbs of Roleystone, Bedfordale, Mt Nasura, Piara Waters and Haynes.

And while it is essential to promote our wider community by promoting our beautiful tourist attractions, it seems that so much could be done by fixing the prominent issues in Armadale itself.
A residents' web-based organisation is a starting point. It would help us as ratepayers, residents, business people and other interested parties to work together and represent and promote our local community.

- Advocating Council for development, improvement and compliance with standards of both Council-owned and ratepayer-owned facilities.
- Seeking Council transparency in its planning and operational decision-making so Armadale ratepayers are informed and involved in decisions affecting the ward.
Our aims for the first year

- To publicise the website with local businesses, community clubs and groups, and sporting groups, which will provide contact information, newsletters or opportunities within the City of Armadale local government area.
- To investigate and encourage the creation of the Armadale Matters Progress Association, provide information on its activities and a website to promote itself.
- Meet with and encourage the City of Armadale to load resource information to the website.

Services for Community and Sporting associations / groups
Message board Notice Board Community Information Board
Bulletin board for the local community providing access to a list of information regarding local issues affecting the life and mental well-being of the people living in this area
Armadale residents can find a list of community and sporting organisations within the City of Armadale by searching the website LINK, in the section for Armadale Community Directory, which the City of Armadale is supporting.
People have to make a lot of effort to find these organisations since they have limited updated contacts, no information on what they do for the community, how many grants they receive, and their constitutions are not visible. So, Armadale Matters will encourage greater use of the community directory and publish more up-to-date information for clubs within the City of Armadale local government area Ph: 0863160454
Armadale Matters supports Community and Sporting Groups and Clubs in the following areas.
- Encouraging local sporting and community clubs to develop governance, management, and welfare skills through adopting the guidance provided by the Department of Local government, Culture and Sports. Running your club | DLGSC
- We advocate for Sporting clubs within the City of Armadale local government area to Council for the provision of or improvements to sporting facilities club administration practical help.
- Advocating for the traditional owners so that their language, stories, and culture are recognised and celebrated. In doing so, Armadale Matters will seek to draw on the knowledge of first nation community members by providing a web page on which their knowledge can be made available to the local community.
- We advocate for Council support to volunteer community organisations and can provide those organisations with free or low-cost listing on our site.
- Facilitate multicultural communities' integration into the workforce by promoting employment or volunteering opportunities through local community organisations.
- Provide access to information for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community to learn and understand the governance system of local government.

About the Perth Hills
βThe Perth Hills span about 80km of peri-urban and regional land that is home to vibrant communities across five local government areas; Swan, Mundaring, Kalamunda, Armadale, and Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
The Perth Hills are an iconic Western Australian natural asset; a critical habitat for the flora and fauna that make the area a biodiversity hotspot and an integral contributor to the environmental health of the greater Perth region. The ecological and cultural importance of these natural systems grows daily as land on the Swan Coastal Plain is given over to development - catching rainwater, cleaning the air and providing habitat for threatened and endangered species.
The challenges are known and shared across the Hills and include wastewater management, bushfire risk, drying climate, and limited and ageing infrastructure (transport, power, telecommunications) that have resulted in ad hoc and misaligned planning outcomes.
The Perth Hills community actively seek new and consolidated growth strategies to build thriving, diverse economies, aligned with environmental and cultural values, to leave a positive legacy for future generations.
